The Nash Hernandez Orchestra Foundation was established as a memorial to my father, Nash Hernandez, in tribute to all the years he spent nurturing young talent. Often times, most of these youngsters couldnt afford expensive private lessons. My father charged a minimal fee because he was more interested in helping these kids learn to play and enjoy music. In addition to providing inexpensive lessons, he also encouraged young musicians to gain the experience they would need if they wanted to become professional musicians by giving them an opportunity to play in his band. Indeed, many of Austins prominent musicians had their first paying gig in Austin working in the Nash Hernandez Orchestra. In was in this spirit that the idea for this foundation was born. As we build the funds in this foundation, it is our desire to be able to provide music scholarships to underprivileged children in Austin and the surrounding communities. The foundation will be a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization that will be managed by the Austin Community Foundation, also a 501 (c) 3 organization. It is our hope to be able to award our first scholarships within two years or sooner if we get the support we need. I know that with the support of all of our fans, we can make this a successful venture for everyone, especially the children of our great city, the "Live Music Capital of the World." If you would like to make a donation to the foundation, make your contribution payable to the Austin Community Foundation and indicate on the memo line of your check or in a letter that you wish your donation be directed to the Nash Hernandez Orchestra Foundation.
